Intern and Apprentice Tax Credit applications now open

Missouri One Start, a division of the Department of Economic Development (DED), announced today that the application period for the Intern and Apprentice Tax Credit is open through November 15, 2025.

Under this program, Missouri employers that increase the average number of interns or apprentices they hire may claim a credit against their state tax liability. Employers must meet eligibility criteria to be in the program.

The goal of the Intern and Apprentice Tax Credit is to help businesses increase the number of interns and apprentices they employ, thereby securing and retaining workforce talent in Missouri.

Intern and Apprentice Tax Credit overview:

  • Employers must apply annually during the application period, which occurs from July 1 – November 15.
  • Employers that qualify for the tax credit program will submit verification documentation in January.

Who can apply?

  • An individual business owner
  • A firm
  • A partner in a firm
  • A corporation
  • A partnership
  • A shareholder in an S Corporation
  • A member of a limited liability company

The tax credit allowance maximum is $1,500 per eligible intern or apprentice with a $9,000 maximum tax credit per year per eligible company.
