District reduces utility bills with lighting upgrades: Bernie R-XIII School

Since February of 2017, students and staff in the Bernie R-XIII School District have benefitted from better and more efficient lighting within the District’s educational facilities.

The lighting improvements were made possible by loan financing through the Division of Energy’s Energy Loan Program (ELP). The older, less-efficient lighting was replaced with more efficient LED lights. These improvements were made to reduce energy consumption, while providing better lighting to building occupants.

The Bernie R-XIII School District received $284,153 in loan financing from the ELP in FY2017 with a 2.75% interest rate. The estimated annual savings of $33,950 will pay back the loan within 10 years.

The FY2018 Supplemental Loan Cycle is now open. Loan applications are being accepted until March 30, 2018.

The loan amount per applicant is from $10,000 to $1 million with a 2.75% interest rate. Loans are repaid by energy savings with a maximum repayment term of 10 years including principal and interest.
