DED Awards $200,000 in tax credits to St. Louis youth homeless shelter

YOP helps non-profit organizations raise private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved youth development projects.

“Covenant House Missouri is positively impacting the lives of thousands of youth across our state,” Department of Economic Development Director Rob Dixon said. “DED proudly assists organizations like these that are helping us create greater opportunities for all Missourians.”

Formally established in 2001, Covenant House Missouri provides holistic, individualized programs for youth ages 16-21, designed to guide the youth from homelessness to hope. The organization also provides shelter, food, clothing and medical attention, as well as support services including outreach, job training and placement, educational programs and mental health counseling.

“We are very excited to receive the YOP tax credits, because they will allow our supporters to maximize the impact of their donations,” Covenant House Missouri CEO Jessica Erfling said. “These additional dollars will provide vital services to guide youth on their journey from homelessness to hope.”

The YOP funds will be directed toward the organization’s Supportive Living Program, which provides employment and life skills training to youth housed at Covenant House.

An affiliate of Covenant House International, Covenant House Missouri has supported 3,371 youth through residential, employment, health and outreach programs and provided 9,530 nights of shelter to date. In 2018 alone, it provided a total of 542 mental health visits.
