DED Awards $195,000 in tax credits to Nurses for Newborns

YOP helps non-profit organizations raise private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved youth development projects.

“Nurses for Newborns is a great organization whose services are truly saving lives,” Department of Economic Development Director Rob Dixon said. “Nonprofit organizations like this help us serve and support Missouri’s youth in leading safe, healthy lives.”

Founded in 1991 by a nurse frequently called to the emergency room to readmit babies with life-threatening illnesses, NFN provides a safety net for families in order to prevent infant mortality, child abuse and neglect. From medical care to donated items, the organization offers a variety of vital services that help parents in need build a strong foundation for their children to lead a lifetime of wellness.

“YOP tax credits benefit our families and increase our donors’ ability to be philanthropic. We are thrilled to again offer these credits to individual donors,” Nurses for Newborns CEO Melinda Monroe said. “The tax incentive will allow us to reach an even greater number of babies and families in our community.”

The funds will help support NFN’s Home Visitation Program for low-income, high-risk families. The program provides pre- and postnatal healthcare and parenting education.

In addition to promoting healthcare, education and positive parenting skills, the organization also offers several volunteer opportunities from office work to organizing events.

NFN currently provides services in 20 Missouri counties and six mid-Tennessee counties and has helped over 110,000 families to date.
