DED announces launch of process to update Missouri’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy

The Department of Economic Development (DED) announced today that research is underway to develop and implement a statewide Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). An updated CEDS will drive federal funding into local communities, improve programs and policies, and promote bold economic development ideas.

“Given a rapidly changing economy and local needs, we look forward to enhancing strategies that will support communities statewide,” said Michelle Hataway, Director of the Department of Economic Development. “Our team is committed to seeking input from partners and stakeholders to ensure our state’s CEDS helps Missourians prosper for years to come.”

The process to develop the CEDS will be guided by Working Teams comprised of subject matter experts and economic development partners. Working Teams will be divided into four groups dedicated to the key themes of Business Development, Community Infrastructure, Innovation, and Talent.

Development of the CEDs will be supported by a Statewide Planning Grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). DED expects to finalize the CEDS by summer of 2025.
