CVS Health Opens New Retail Distribution Center in Kansas City, MO

CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) today officially announced the opening of a new retail distribution center in Kansas City, MO, located at 10711 North Congress Avenue in the Skyport Industrial Park.  When fully operational, the new distribution center will add more than 360 new jobs to the Kansas City area, as well as an additional 70 to 100 jobs through work with local businesses.

To mark the occasion, CVS Health held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the distribution center today with Governor Mike Parson, Kansas City Councilman Dan Fowler and Platte County Presiding Commissioner Rob Schieber. The event provided an opportunity for area partners to celebrate the opening and commemorate the collaborative support among state and local agencies throughout the planning and development process for the new facility.

“CVS Health is creating 360 good paying jobs; jobs that will support area families,” Governor Mike Parson said. “That’s a good story in and of itself, but on top of that, this facility will ship products to 500 CVS Pharmacy locations all over the Midwest. It all starts here. It starts with CVS Health and the partnerships that made this project possible. That’s something that CVS Health, all of Kansas City and all of Missouri can be proud of.”

“As North America’s logistics center, Missouri knows logistics and distribution, and can get products to the global market quickly and efficiently,” Steve Johnson, CEO of Missouri Partnership, said. “We are North America’s multimodal crossroads, and we are thrilled to celebrate with CVS as they cut the ribbon on their new facility. It was great to be a part of the team that supported their expansion, and we look forward to their continued growth and investment in Missouri.”

CVS Health selected Kansas City for the location of the new distribution center because of Missouri’s high-quality workforce and centralized geography. The 762,000 sq. ft. distribution center will support the service and fulfillment needs of more than 500 CVS Pharmacy locations throughout the Midwest by reducing the driving distance for these deliveries and, as a result, will significantly reduce carbon emissions and help improve highway safety.

“We are proud to create new jobs and contribute to the economic growth and development of the greater Kansas City, Missouri area.  We appreciate the leadership of Governor Parson and all of the state and local officials here who worked with us to make this project a success,” said Thomas Moriarty, Chief Policy and External Affairs Officer, CVS Health. “As our business continues to grow, this new facility is a critical part of our infrastructure to ensure we can best serve our customers throughout the Midwest region and beyond.”

“The Platte County Economic Development Council is pleased to welcome CVS Health and to celebrate their investment and job creation,” said Alicia Stephens, Executive Director of the Platte County EDC. “The KCI Corridor continues to attract quality businesses and we look forward to working with the company as they grow in Platte County.   CVS Health's decision to locate to the KCI Corridor affirms Platte County’s position as a leader in the logistics sector due to our transportation accessibility and quality workforce.”

The new distribution center is expected to begin shipping orders to Midwest CVS Pharmacy locations on October 1, 2018, and adds to CVS Pharmacy’s network of 18 distribution centers nationwide.

“The KC region is regularly proving its value as a regional hub for distribution, eCommerce and fulfillment operations,” said Tim Cowden, president and CEO, Kansas City Area Development Council. “We are honored to add CVS to the list of companies that are finding KC is an ideal location for reaching customers more efficiently than almost anywhere else in the U.S.”
