Missouri has a significant finance and insurance business sector presence with major employers including Bank of America, National City, Regions Bank, U.S. Bancorp, Commerce Bank, UMB Bank, Thomson Reuters, Centene, MasterCard, Reinsurance Group of America, Scottrade, and Edward Jones.  Missouri is the only state with two Federal Reserve Banks, located in Kansas City and St. Louis. In fact, St. Louis, Missouri, has the third highest location quotient for Securities and Commodity Contracts Intermediation and Brokerage of any region in the nation (New York City is 1st and Boston is 2nd).  Furthermore, two Missouri-based reinsurance companies, Reinsurance Group of America and Generali USA, comprise nearly 42 percent of the national market share for life reinsurance.  Another of the world's leading reinsurers, Swiss Re is also domiciled in Missouri.

Recent Industry Expansions

The financial and professional services fields in Missouri continue to grow.  There have been several announcements of existing facility expansions, new facility expansions and new companies locating to the Show-Me State.  

In 2014, Lead Bank announced a $3.6 million renovation and expansion in Kansas City. The plan will create 12 new jobs. Also, in St Louis U.S. Bank completed an expansion in 2013. The company's expansion resulted in 260 new jobs.

In 2014, Kansas City based Burns and McDonnell announced a plan to create 2,100 new jobs with a $109.20 million expansion of its headquarters.
