DED approves over $880,000 in water related CDBG projects in Newton County

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo- The Missouri Department of Economic Development today announced it has awarded the communities of Newtonia and Stark City with $882,500 in funds from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Projects include:

  • Village of Newtonia was awarded $500,000 for water infrastructure
  • Village of Stark City was awarded  $382,500 for water infrastructure

The Newtonia and Stark City projects, nearby one another, will address a higher than normal level of lost and unaccounted for water and issues with increasingly frequent system-wide shut downs.

The projects are also supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development in the form of loans and/or grants.

The CDBG program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides grants and loan funds to cities with a population under 50,000 and counties under 200,000 to assist in a variety of public works and economic development projects.
